SILENCE AND AWARENESS RETREAT

Silence and Awareness Retreat

July 26 (3 PM) - August 5 (11 AM), 2019

Benedictine Center, St Paul MN

Guided by Mary Jo Meadow, PhD

The Retreat: This retreat comes mainly from Christian Carmelite spirituality and Theravadan Buddhism. For all levels of practice experience, including beginners.  Each day offers an integrative conference, sitting and walking meditation practice, and two instruction sessions.Individual interviews are also available daily.  There is sometimes a Q&A session.  Retreatants do not interact during the retreat to foster deep stillness and awareness.

Mindfulness meditation helps us empty out roles, voluntary experiences, and the other "trappings" of ordinary daily life to be available to growth.  It makes us receptive to the healing and self-knowledge that mystics taught as necessary got spiritual growth - and to eventually "see" through to Ultimate Reality.

This retreat is for those who want a greater depth than most retreats offer.  Although experience are sometimes intense, the method manages them, and individuals "open" to different experiences as their capacity for them grows.  Practitioners of many traditions find this practice very helpful to deepen self-knowledge, self-management, and spiritual growth.

Mary Jo Meadow;  Mary Jo has meditated over 65 years in the Christian, yoga and Buddhist traditions.  She teaches mindfulness in the USA, Canada, Europe, and Australia.  She is psychology and religious studies professor emerita at MN State University Mankato, offers spiritual guidance, and writes and lectures on spirituality.  She has seven published books.  She brings Meditation in to Prisons and Jails as a volunteer.
